Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi!

Bucket list trip coming in September. I’ll keep this updated. Sydney, Ayres Rock, Cairns (glass bottom boat, William. Somehow I don’t see me snorkeling), Melbourne.

  1. Oh, Will, it’s got nothing to do with *can’t* do it. It has everything with not wanting to go into the water looking like this:

I mean, I have my pride. Not much of it, but it’s still there.

OK, OK. There’s a dive school 15 minutes away from me. I will make this my summer project. Sheesh, you’re rough! 🙂 Learning to dive at 68 seems like a cool thing. Why not? And thanks for the push!

    1. I have long since said that there is nothing elegant about dive gear on dry land. Anyone who tries to make that happen is just wasting their money (like the lady I saw with a white wetsuit!)

Also, the photo is actually not too far off if you get in a drysuit and fully inflate it. Just for kicks my instructor did that to me during my training…. you basically become the kid from The Christmas Story in all his winter coats and he can’t put his arms down. It is worth a laugh!

Just don’t be like the guy I saw in Hawaii (I should have taken a photo but we were all laughing too hard to do it)… This dude was walking through the parking lot with a mask and snorkel on his forehead, fins on his feet, and a big yellow safety float around his belly. And I mean *walking* – like full on duck walking – to the water fountain… and not just a few steps, like a good couple hundred feet.

And as for getting certified (and since you’re doing it to dive in OZ), “Good on ya, mate!”

  2. Snokeling sucks. I don’t recommend it at all. Just do it right and get scuba certified. And before you say you can’t, I’ll tell you that I helped out with a class in October where we certified an 82 year-old paraplegic man, so think about that before you say “can’t”. 🙂
